Photo contest + mobile exhibition "WIND | ENERGY | HUMAN BEING" is online

07-11-23 - Kristina Koebe
From September to November 2007, the project partners from Havelland-Flaeming and Rostock performed a photographer's contest on wind energy, titled "Wind - Energy - Human being" addressed to pupils of art schools in Rostock and Berlin. Future photographer's and designers were asked to contribute with the following task:

"We expect works that do not only document a status but also the relationship and interaction between machines with their surrounding landscape and that enable a better understanding of their perception by the human being with the conflicting priorities of destruction, familiarization and fascination. The photos shall contribute to making these aspects experiencable".

Finally, more than 30 photos were provided by participants and evaluated by the jury of the contest. Please, find all contributing photos, the winner included, under: "WIND | ENERGY | HUMAN BEING".

Conference and final partner meeting in Potsdam in November 2007

07-11-16 - Manfred Bookholdt
Under the title "THE FUTURE OF WIND FARMING" the Wind-Tech-Know project organised and held an international conference in Potsdam on 14./15. November 2007. Almost forty participants from many European countries, including the project partners, presented their latest working results and experiences on the topics

- European wind energy tendencies
- Operating models for wind farms
- Contribution of wind energy to complex renewable energy supply concepts.

The conference was supplemented by an impressive exhibition where many of the tangible results of the Wind-Tech-Know project were presented and introduced to the public.

The conference marked also the end of a very efficient and fruitful cooperation of the Wind-Tech-Know partners from all over Europe. Many of the partners emphasised  the importance of this project concerning the European cooperation on wind energy, the amount of valuable and practice-related results as well as the pleasant and powerful working atmosphere during the last three years once again.

Windpower Distance Education

07-06-20 - Tore Wizelius

The university level distance education courses, developed within this projects, have now been integrated in the Gotland University's regular course catalogue. This autumn the course Windpower Technology starts in august/september. In october/november Windpower Planning follows.

The course Windpower Basics will be run on a flexible mode, start when you like and study at your own pace. All students have to pass this course before they are accepted to the other courses.

The number of applicants for the courses this autumn have increased very much, so Gotland University has had to hire some new teachers to manage the courses. More info about the courses, that all are free of charge, you can find at www.hgo.se

Wind energy training material for pupils

07-05-11 - Kristina Koebe
Over the last few months, training material for pupils was developed by the project partners. It aims to improve the knowledge of pupils (intended age: 11 to 14 years old) about wind energy and to increase their interest in the topic. While interesting and useful information about wind turbines and wind energy use are provided, the emotional approach to the topic is improved as well.

Together with training material for pupils and teaching material for teachers, patterns for building one's own paper wind turbine are provided - they have been successfully tested so far with pupils from Bad Doberan County during the last weeks.

So far, the material is available on this website in:
- German
- English (coming soon)

Successful online-courses within the Windtechknow-project

07-02-14 - Kristina Koebe
The windpower courses keep on to be a big success - they have had many students from all corners of the world including Europe, from Portugal, Greece, South America, India etc. The course Wind Power Planning had 30 active participants. The test-course Wind Power Technology is currently running with 10 participants and everything is working out just fine. The course applies Maratech to perform lecturers which is a modern pedagogical instrument. Pleasant news are that the demand for these courses seems to increase and there are many persons in the cue for the courses starting autumn 2007.

Regional planning case study in Havelland- Fläming (Germany)

06-11-06 - Manfred Bookholdt
According to the conception of the WIND-TECH-KNOW project one of the basic emphases is to recognise and to depict wind energy in a regional planning context. With good practice examples transferred into regional planning and development programmes the competence of governmental bodies and regional administrations will be improved. This intention was put into practice by a regional planning case study in Havelland- Fläming (Germany).
In May 2006 the Regional Planning Association Havelland- Fläming made the decision to update the existing “Regional Wind Energy Plan” and to open the mandatory formal procedure. The WIND-TECH-KNOW project could be linked with this real planning process and provided a well-founded planning and decision making documentation focussed on :

      1. Local wind potential and energy yield estimate (Estonian Wind Power Association)

      2. Potential technical planning scenarios (Wind-projekt/ Bad Doberan County Council)

      3. Assessment of wind park effects on bat populations (Technological Education
          Institute of Crete)

The individual modules of the study will be the basis to make decisions of the responsible Regional Planning Association on the planned “Regional Wind Energy Plan Updating” as objective as possible. The documentation is further suitable to involve the local public in an early planning stage and to make potential wind energy projects more acceptable to them.

VIRU NIGULA- Wind potential study

06-07-10 - Manfred Bookholdt
One of the component 3 emphases is to provide regional studies on climatologic, technical and economic basics to found rational wind energy planning strategies for future wind energy regions. A fundamental base for wind energy utilisation is the knowledge of the regional wind potential and the expected  energy yield of modern wind turbines.
According to the recommendation of the Estonian Windpower Association (EWA) the municipality of VIRU NIGULA could be taken into consideration as a potential wind energy development area in Estonia. Therefore it was advisable to provide a regional study on the useful wind potential as a first document to found a regional and local planning strategy.
The results of the calculations verify that the chosen region VIRU NIGULA is provided with large-scale areas with economically relevant wind potentials. In 100 metres above ground level (a.g.l.) the whole coastal area and a wide range of inland areas can reach a mean annual wind speed of 7.0 m/s and more.
The existence of beneficial economical, financial and legal conditions could stimulate a similar development in Estonian wind energy regions like in the leading European countries.

Business Advisors learn about Wind Tech Know

06-05-18 -
Welsh advisors to businesses met in Conwy today (18 May 2006) to learn more about projects that could help their clients.  The Conwy Business Support Network of over 100 members meets regularly in Llandudno Junction to exchange information of value to their clients - small and medium sized enterprises across North Wales.  Conwy Energy Agency was asked to explain the work of the Agency including the WindTechKnow project.  As well as outlining the aims of the project and the components, the website was clearly pointed out.  The audience were very interested and asked several questions about wind power, renewables and energy efficiency and how they can help small and medium sized businesses save money, improve security of energy supply, improve their environmental impact and the comfort of people on their premises.

Regional information campaign started in Havelland-Flaeming

06-04-22 - Kristina Koebe
Municipal administrations and wind energy entrepreneurs in cooperation with the Regional Planning Broad Havelland-Flaeming are going to start first steps of a regional information campaign. The attitude survey conducted in the context of WindTechKnow-project indicated that legal required public participation is insufficient to cope with fears and prejudices of citizens. Local wind energy projects more and more come up against opposition of anti-wind-activist. Therefore the regional planners advise to further the dialog between municipal decision makers, wind entrepreneurs and citizens and have compiled a balanced catalogue of widely known pro and contra arguments. Various municipal administrations support the idea of installing computer information terminals sponsored by local wind farmers in the town halls were visitors can inform themselves on pro and contra arguments and facts about wind generation in there territory.
